Pies and Tarts Cooking Class – November 3, 2011

Pumpkin Pecan Cheesecake

Pumpkin Pecan Cheesecake

Are you a Pie Lover? or do you yearn to make a flaky home made pie crust that doesn’t fall apart? or are you assigned pies for the upcoming Thanksgiving Dinner? (only six weeks away) If you said yes to any of these questions, then the Pies and Tarts Cooking Class is for you!   Come join us on Thursday, November 3 from 6:00 -9:00 pm as we turn flour and butter into something wonderful!

I picked up FIVE cookbooks on nothing but Pies at the Central Library last week and there were plenty more on the shelf. I was there to hear a lecture on Quince by author, Barbara Ghazarian during the Culinary Historians of Southern California monthly meeting. (I digress!)

So in the coming weeks, I will be sifting through the pie books to find some
tantalizing recipes for us to try. I’ve already experimented with my Pumpkin
Pecan Cheesecake, which we will make. I tasted an old-fashioned Coconut Cream Pie at a restaurant recently and was reminded of this wonderful creamy dessert.  You can swap the coconut for bananas if you prefer. I promise they will all be dreamy and tasty. You will take home your very own pie to serve your family too.

…And, I will serve you a savory pie for a light supper, while we roll dough and bake to our hearts content.

All this for a low class fee of $35 when you reserve by October 31, $40 at the
door. To reserve your spot, email Patricia@FreshFoodinaFlash.com . Then write a check to “Fresh Food in a Flash”; mail it to Holy Nativity Episcopal Church, Cooking Class, 6700 West 83rd Street, Westchester, CA 90045.

…and, as is our custom, please bring a can, bag or box of food to donate to the LAX Food Pantry. We also welcome you to bring extra backyard fruits and veggies to share or donate to LAX Food Pantry.

We welcome your feedback.
