Food Bloggers gathered in the Big Bear Mountains east of Los Angeles for Camp Blogaway, a food bloggers camp and we all got to try out some cool new products.
Some of my favorite products we tried out in camp were the celery straws (grown naturally with a tunnel in the middle) brought by Duda Farms that we used in the Bloody Mary contest and their new blush celery that debuted at camp. My Duda Bloody Mary with cucumber vodka, tomato juice, Worcestershire sauce, Tobasco sauce, wasabi peas, celery salt, a chile lime salted rim and a celery straw and olive, cornichon and radish garnish did not win the prize, but I enjoyed drinking it! Look for the blush celery naturally colored after twenty years of R&D in the market soon. Duda sells its celery under the Dandy brand name in supermarkets.
Oxo did a demonstration of their Stainless Steel Mandoline and we used it to slice Idaho potatoes for our breakfast. Their product is very easy to use and get evenly sliced potatoes. To keep your fingers safe, use the food holder to get every last bit of food sliced. I didn’t win one of the 12 mandolines that were given away, but I was inspired to pull my Pampered Chef Mandoline out of the closet and try working with it again. I finally got the hang of it after slicing some cucumbers and radishes and plan to use it more in future recipes along with the smaller handheld version that Oxo distributed to all campers.
I took home oodles of products and recipes to test out in my Fresh Food in a Flash kitchen. Look for them to appear in upcoming posts.
