Soups, Stews and Bread Cooking Class – Thursday, January 11, 2018

Chicken and Sausage Gumbo from the 2017 class.

Chicken and Sausage Gumbo from the 2017 class.

The January cleanse at our house begins with Soup.  Warming and comforting, a nice healthy bowl of soup is a wonderful contrast to the rich foods we indulge in during the month of December.  Join us at our Soups, Stews and Bread Class on Thursday, January 11, 2018, 6:00 – 9:30 pm at the Holy Nativity Community Hall.

We will be making a fresh-made vegetable stock in 30-45 minutes that will go into our delicious soups that you are going to love.  Perfect for a winter full of healthiness.  Serve with a salad and the easy to make Rosemary French Baguettes and you will not feel that you are dieting at all.  We will melt some cheddar on the baguette slices and have a nice “Grilled Cheese” to go with our Tomato Soup.

Last year we made this amazing Chicken and Sausage Gumbo from Nancie McDermott’s book.  We will make the Chicken Brunswick Stew from the same book this year.    Come join us as we try these new recipes for 2018:

  • Fresh-Made Vegetable Stock
  • Tomato Soup – the classic
  • Shrimp Bisque
  • Italian Wedding Soup with Sausage, Beans, Greens, Cabbage and Tomatoes
  • Rosemary French Baguettes topped with Melted Cheddar – So easy, you won’t believe it!
  • Rufus Estes’ Brunswick Stew with Chicken, Beans and Corn from Southern Soups & Stews by Nancie McDermott

Patricia K. Rose, of Fresh Food in a Flash, will lead this hands-on cooking class on Thursday, January 11, 2018, 6:00-9:30 at the newly remodeled Holy Nativity Community Hall in Westchester. Once we complete the cooking, sit down and enjoy a meal you and your new friends made together with a glass of wine.

Cooking Class fee $55 when you reserve by January 8, $65 thereafter if space available. To reserve your spot, email Patricia@FreshFoodinaFlash.com. Classes take place at Holy Nativity Community Hall,, 6700 West 83rd Street, Westchester, CA 90045.
