“As American as apple pie” is a common saying, but how common is it for Americans to know how to make an apple pie?…not so common, I’m afraid. So my goal is to teach a few more people how to make an apple pie along with a flaky pie crust. The secret to a really great pie is a homemade flaky pie crust made with both butter for flavor and shortening for easier handling. Come learn the secrets of making pies with us on Thursday, November 8, 6:00 – 9:00 pm at the Holy Nativity Community Hall and take home one of your own homemade pies to impress your family and friends. Then, you will be ready to make your own pie at home for Thanksgiving Day.
You’ll choose from the following pies:
- Old-Fashioned American Apple Pie
- Sweet Potato Pie
- Grasshopper Pie – based on that “Mad Men era cocktail”
- Black Bottom Pie
- Caramelized Walnut Tart
Class fee $40 when you reserve by November 5, $45 at the door. To reserve your spot, email Patricia@FreshFoodinaFlash.com . Then write a check to “Fresh Food in a Flash”; mail it to Holy Nativity Episcopal Church, Cooking Class, 6700 West 83rd Street, Westchester, CA 90045.
Gorgeous pies. Thanks for the mention too! XOGREG
The selections sound yummy! I’m so glad to be joining you again this year, Patricia. I love helping people learn how to make awesome pie crusts!
Carol – you are the best pie crust maker! Thanks for helping to take the mystery out of “easy as pie” for our students.
