The heat of the summer makes us want to “fire up the barbecue” and enjoy the warm outdoors instead of cooking inside. In our Fire Up the Barbecue Cooking Class on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at 6:00 – 9:30 pm, at the Holy Nativity Community Hall we will be cooking with fire and smoke to make a delicious summer menu. Come join the fun and take away some delicious recipes to make at your next outdoor picnic or barbecue.
I made these delicious Jerk Burgers with Caramelized Pineapple Rings all last summer. It was reminiscent of a memorable sandwich I tasted in Maui that had barbecued pulled pork with a Caramelized Pineapple ring. This Jerk Burger is way easier to make in a flash and full of that Hawaiian/Jamaican flavor. We’ll throw some shrimp on the Barbie and round out our meal with some delicious veggies and and summer berries on a decadent meringue pavlova. If you’ve never tasted a pavlova, named for the Russian ballerina, Anna Pavlova, you are in for a real treat.
Here’s what you will be tasting at the “Fire Up the Barbecue” Cooking Class on Thursday, July 27:
- Chile-Lime Shrimp Skewers
- Cauliflower Slabs with Romesco Sauce (a Spanish walnut-red pepper sauce) from Deborah Madison’s new cookbook, “In My Kitchen”.
- Jerk Burgers (pork or chicken) with Caramelized Pineapple Rings
- Lebanese Taboulie made with red and white quinoa from Julie Taboulie’s new cookbook, “Lebanese Kitchen”
- Summer Berry Pavlova – a decadent meringue dessert
Patricia K. Rose, of Fresh Food in a Flash, will lead this hands-on cooking class on Thursday, July 27, 2017, 6:00-9:30 at the newly remodeled Holy Nativity Community Hall in Westchester. Once we complete the cooking, sit down and enjoy a meal you and your new friends made together with a glass of wine.
