Knife Skills Workshop – April 12, 2018

The Knife Skills Workshop is the most important cooking class you will attend.  In this class, you will learn to slice and dice like a pro. If you can take only one cooking class, it should be a Knife Skills Class.  Our next class, Thursday, April 12, 6:00 – 9:30 p.m will be limited to only 10 students, so sign up early.  This class will change the way you cook.  Proper use of a Chef’s knife will cut your cooking time in half and you will enjoy preparing fresh food more than ever.

I will be serving you a freshly made dinner in the beginning of the class, then we’ll practice our Knife Skills and chop vegetables for another meal you can cook up at home. For this class, bring a chef’s knife  (the knife in the picture above) and a cutting board so you can practice.

If you don’t have a good knife, you should invest in one.  They are pricey but worth it.  It will last you a lifetime and it’s the most important tool in your kitchen. I’ve had the Cutco chef’s knife pictured above for about five years and recently sent it in for sharpening, which they do for free at their headquarters in New York.  Wow! What a difference this newly sharpened knife is. It cuts like butta…(butter).  I can recommend purchasing the same knife I have, which is the Cutco Petite Chef’s Knife  or one like it.  There are tons of choices.  Shop around – what you want is a heavy one, 6” – 9”, forged high carbon steel, full tang, which means the blade goes through inside the handle.  I can recommend Thee Cutlery at the Manhattan Beach Mall as a store where you can get educated about knives and where you can have your knife sharpened professionally – a good idea to do once a year.   P.S.  I will have a few extra knives that are available if you don’t have one before the class and a knife sharpener if your knife needs a quick honing or sharpening.

Patricia K. Rose, of Fresh Food in a Flash, will lead this hands-on cooking class on Thursday, April 12, 2018, 6:00-9:30 at the newly remodeled Holy Nativity Community Hall in Westchester.

Cooking Class fee $65 when you reserve by April 9. Class limited to 10 students. You must reserve in advance for this class. To reserve your spot,  email Patricia@FreshFoodinaFlash.com.  Classes take place at the Holy Nativity Community Hall, 6700 West  83rd Street, Westchester, CA  90045.
